Our great grandfather was a sartorial tailor in the Calabrian town of Roccella Ionica, Italy, in the early 1900s. Our great aunt — his daughter and one of our last blood relatives on our maternal grandfather's side — recounted some details to me recently. Known as "Il maestro" in his town, he specialised in tailoring custom suits for men.

His skills were apparently sought in Milan, but he opted to stay in his town and with his family instead. Of course, he passed long before either of us were born. Photos and anecdotes aside, we hold a tangible artifact that connects us directly to his life and craft: his fabric scissors.

Heavy, rusted, and now blunt, we dreamt about the fabrics these surfed through once upon a time; when garments were cut with texture, weight, and longevity in mind. If we compare them to the fabrics and pieces worn today, it's not hard to see just how much detail and consideration has been lost in the pursuit of trends, larger wardrobes, and business growth.
Over the last few months, we've worked to develop a pair of premium pieces that have been imagined, designed, and made to move with you for years and years to come — rather than to be worn for a season and sent to landfill.
Expensive to make, expensive to buy (our transparency)
Before discussing the pieces themselves, we just wanted to clarify the pricing of these new pieces. We understand that shopping with a smaller brand can be daunting as it is, especially when the prices are higher than usual from us. So, to be clear: we wanted to challenge ourselves with this release, going the extra mile to make boutique-ready garments.
We searched for weeks for the right fabrics and materials, manufactured in Japan and Italy. Then came the development costs, shipping charges, and customs duties. Unfortunately, it's not easy for us to bring you these types of pieces. But we are dedicated to doing so, and believe 100% that the price you pay is well worth it for the quality.
[A.B] "BROTHERS OG" Japanese Cotton SS Shirt
Previously known as the "Boxy Button Down", the "BROTHERS OG" Button Up Shirt carries a fit almost identical to its predecessor. Designed as an all-rounder for summer wear and patterned layering, our shirts have sold out completely each time. While our past editions have indeed been of high quality, this edition takes things to a new level.
For this edition, we opted for a premium 40/1 cotton poplin plaid fabric, woven in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. It's woven from a fine, lightweight cotton yarn that is both dense and premium to the touch. It will soften beautifully with wear, and was chosen to ensure this piece moves with you for years to come. Finally, it features a familiar silhouette — our favoured boxy fit, with plenty of room in the chest and a subtle waistline crop.

Perhaps our favourite feaure of this shirt, and the icing on the cake, is our choice of buttons. We selected buttons crafted from real sea shells, manufactured in Nara, Japan. Each button has a beautiful iridescence due to its natural lustre, with the back of each button featuring a totally unique pattern.

[A.B] 1952 TROUSER
If you've only just joined us, we teased the 1952 trouser project on our page in early 2024. While visiting the Korean War Memorial in Seoul, we came across the Australian military uniform exhibit. The trousers on the mannequin were fabulous, and we wanted to work on a pair that paid them homage (while sprinkling in some ATELIER flavour).

Our first shot missed the target. The fabric was on the thin side, some details were off, and we weren't happy with the overall construction. We showed them off, but we felt like they were far from ready.
Fast forward to mid 2025, and we gave them another shot — this time with a premium cotton/wool blend herringbone, imported from Japan, and detailed with Italian palm nut buttons. This time, they were almost perfect. The herringbone was voluminous, felt luxurious on the skin, and the Italian button details added the final touches.

Ideally, we wanted to release these first in khaki green, but our supplier advised us last minute that it was in production and wouldn't be here until late 2025. In the end, we made the call to bring you a run to black trousers to get them out as soon as possible.

Thank you, from the brothers
Not only are these pieces infused with archival and historical influence — they are a symbol of our dedication to producing premium pieces that don't come along too often.
